Composer David Fetter is an arranger and publisher of music primarily for brass instruments. Two of his compositions for trombone alone are performed widely by prominent trombonists and their students: Variations on Palestrina’s “Dona Nobis Pacem” and Spain from Bass Lines. A video of the Variations was posted in 2017 on YouTube in his own performance by Ben Van Dijk, Bass Trombonist of the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra in Holland. A new work for tenor trombone and piano or symphony band, Situation Update was premiered recently by Ron Barron, retired Principal Trombonist of the Boston Symphony Orchestra.
Fetter was a Baltimore Symphony Orchestra trombonist from 1970 to 1986. His most recent interest is in composing secular choral anthems. He has conducted brass ensembles and taught at the Peabody Conservatory in Baltimore. Fetter conducts the Ellicott City Trombone Choir.
